House under trees

House under trees

Private residence

2008-2017

The architectural neutral point of this building in a parish near Tartu is its sauna. It was meant to be separate from the main building. The search for form emanated from the idea that separate does not necessarily mean separated. Thus a building partly situated on top of the separate sauna was born. Volume-wise it is one building, not two separate structures.
The second starting point was material. The house under the trees is covered in weathering Cor-ten steel and larch cladding treated with ferrous sulfate. The natural layer of
rust and wood patina are forever changing, like the forest.
